Southampton came across a strong opposition and had many injuries ( Claus Lundekvam , Michael Svennson,
Matt Oakley) and apparently Antti Niemi was "sick "
i think he is prepared to join a premiership club for about 1.5 million.
Saints started brightly withought there bright orange oppounents having a sight of goal. Cover goalkeeper Paul Smith was brought into action near the end of the 1st half, but pulled off a smart save.
Saints were outplayed in the second half and ex saint Shipperly struck the the only goal. Manger George Burley didn't give up hope and brought on wonder kid Theo Walcot and young goalscorer Dexter Blackstock who had Southamptons best chance with a diving header that was so close everyone behind the goal ( me included ) cheered before relising it had skimed past the post.
Next week away at Cardif

Southampton Football club have been recently relegated into the championship from the premiership.
They have some famouse players including Matthew Le Tissier and Peter Shilton.
They have a large stadium which can hold up to 32,000 people.
